How I love Chinese Opera

These photos are from my first trip to see a Chinese Opera. It was something I’ve always wanted to do, old Chinese Opera films like The Love Eterne(梁山伯與祝英台) are amongst my favorites, so seeing a production live in person was a logical continuation once I arrived in China. The opera I saw was actually German, called The Good Person of Szechwan or Der gute Mensch von Sezuan. It featured an immensely popular performer named Mao Wei Tao(茅威涛) who put on an incredible show. My colleague, Chinese teacher, and good friend Luke took me to see the show so I’d like to say thanks to him. I’m looking forward to my next visit to the theatre.
